BISSUC 2026 reimagines an unfinished Rail Baltica bridge in Riga as a new public promenade above the Daugava waterfront. Located near the Central Market, railway station, and city embankment, the project transforms abandoned infrastructure into an accessible space for walking, relaxation, and social interaction.
The proposal embraces the site’s industrial character while creating a peaceful and artistic atmosphere. Existing steel bridge structures, panoramic river views, wind conditions, and the movement of nearby trains become part of the spatial experience rather than limitations.
The bridge includes seating areas, bicycle parking, a café, art installations, kinetic wind sculptures, and accessible routes with elevators for people with reduced mobility. Curved artistic walls and integrated lighting elements guide visitors through the space and create a dynamic visual identity during both day and night.
By combining architecture, landscape, and public space, the project demonstrates how unfinished urban infrastructure can be transformed into a meaningful civic destination that reconnects people with the river and the city.
