014 | Kate Putniņa | Park on the River

This design project is a part of the Riga BISSUC 2026 as a contemporary, multi-functional public space that combines architecture, landscape, and leisure. In my concept, I focused on clean geometric pathways, integrated water features, and structured greenery to create a calm yet dynamic urban environment. A key element in my design is the sculptural wooden pavilion with curved ribs, which adds identity and warmth while contrasting with the minimal concrete surroundings. I intentionally used terraces, level changes, and seating zones to encourage movement, social interaction, and relaxation along the waterfront. I also integrated functional elements such as shaded seating areas, cafés, and small architectural volumes in a way that maintains the openness of the space. Overall, my goal was to achieve a balance between modern aesthetics and human-centered design, creating an inviting and visually distinctive urban terrace.
