Terms and Conditions of the Competition

BISSUC 2022 competition overview

 

Baltic International Student SketchUp Competition 2022 aims to improve the 3D modelling, rendering, presentation and design skills of student from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Provided to them is an objective to design a sundial at the Square of Light in Vilnus.

Why a sundial? This simple object is an epitomic symbol of human connection to time and space. It can entail a cultural meaning to historic and astronomical events, connection to the seasons of nature and the everyday change in suns insolation in our living space. Why SketchUp and V-ray? They provide a full package of tools for both young designers and design professionals to effectively design, visualize and present their projects. 11th of April – Competition launch webinar

Who can participate? All students from accredited educational institutions in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

Where to Start? After registration all contestants will be provided with a SketchUp Pro and V-ray license, that will work for the duration of the competition. You will also receive a geo-located SketchUp model, that shows the existing landscape and vegetation of the site, as well as other relevant site information and photos. 

Timeline and Rules

1st of April – Competition start.  Participants need to register at website www.sketchupbaltic.eu and may start work on their submissions. Attendance to webinars is not obligatory but strongly encouraged to learn how to create the best submission. No design work, connected to the competition theme, made prior to this date can be used. 

During the competition and the voting stage participants are encouraged to share their work in progress using #BISSUC2022 on social media sites.

31st of May – Submission deadline. Only projects that are submitted in a timely manner will be permitted to enter the first voting stage. Need to be sent to sketchup@geonovus.lt 

Students need to submit design proposal, that includes:

  • PDF file with project description, images and dimensions;

  • 3 project visualizations for voting page in .jpeg or .png format, minimum 2000px width, recommended 1:1 aspect ratio;

  • Video to show design function in .mp4 format;

  • Project SketchUp and Layout file to show proof of authorship;

To encourage student participation from different design fields, students need to choose in which of the three submission categories to participate in:

Small scale - A free standing sculpture with high level of detail. Location can be chosen quite flexibly. Fits in ~3x3m dimensions.

Large scale - Sundial of more monumental proportions that is integrated with landscaping or building design. Fits in ~30x30m dimensions.

Interactive - Sundial function is enabled by the interaction with the human body or mechanical and audio-visual elements.

If submission is accepted or rejected, the students will receive a notification of the reasons of in one working day.

1st of June – Start of public voting stage. All submissions that have met requirements will be displayed on www.sketchupbaltic.eu. Public vote will decide TOP 5 submissions in each of submission categories that will advance to jury voting stage.  

22nd of June – Start of jury voting stage where 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be decided.

1st of July – Winner announcement on competition web page. Winners will be contacted to claim their prize.

Other Terms and Conditions
  • All relations arising between the Organizer and the Participants are regulated by these conditions, the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania and other legal acts, applicable to the territory of the European Union.

  • Participants enter the competition by filling in the registration form on the website www.sketchupbaltic.eu and meeting the qualification requirements. The registration form is available from 01.04.2022

  • Confirmation of registration and participation in the competition is sent to the e-mail address of the Participant indicated in the registration form.

  • On April 11th all the participants who have registered will be sent the software licenses and project site details. For participants who register after April 11th – licenses and site details will be provided in one working day after registration.

  • At public and Jury voting stage, student name, surname, educational institution and an up to 500-character long description will be displayed with their submission.

  • Submissions need to be in English.

  • The organizers do not acquire any copyright of the participants' design projects, but reserve the right to publish the materials for marketing purposes in its communication channels and websites, as well as on competition partner pages. 

  • The submission of working files is only required for authorship confirmation and will not be used for purposes other than those specified in the rules.
